Sleeboo x Sewing Together Collection - Pyjamas with a mission to empower women

As a female owned business supporting and empowering women is a cause very close to our hearts.

When we came across a Forbes Women article about Maja Kotala and the important work she does to empower women in East Africa we knew we had to reach out to her to support this mission. This is how a limited collection of two different pyjama sets was created!

By purchasing a pyjama set from the Sewing Together collection you're supporting an educational program focused on teaching skills of designing, sewing and business of fashion to women in East Africa, who can't afford education.

Each pyjama set has been lovingly hand made by graduates!

The story of Sewing Together and Maja Kotala

Sewing Together is an educational program which aims to teach women a skill of fashion and design, pattern making, sewing, as well marketing, photography and business. The goal is to give them a chance for independence in life and a future without being vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.

The educational program is free of charge, lasts six months and is available for women who can't afford education and thus are vulnerable to exploitation.

Founded in 2018, by Maja Kotala, with the first edition in Uganda together with Kimuli Fashionblibity with four young leaders and two women with disabilities. Today, as a result of the program Kimuli Fashionability, runs a new facility with five full time employees.

In 2019, Sewing Together in collaboration with Salvation Army trained 20 women in a spirit of women empowerment.

Beside fashion training, Sewing Together actively fights menstrual poverty in Kenya, by providing free reusable pads for Women in Mombasa County, Voi, Thika and Maasai Tribes. It shares the awareness about the issue in Poland and beyond trough collaborations with established brands.

In 2020, Maja Kotala opened a school project in Bamburi Mombasa and started to work with HAART Kenya.

Under Prevention HAART offers support to the vulnerable population, mostly women and youth. By training them, giving new skills and capacity HAART reduces vulnerability to trafficking. That is why in 2021 HAART merged with Sewing Together as menstrual poverty is one of the key contributors towards human trafficking.

We feel humbled and thankful to be able to work with the wonderful and always smiling Maja Kotala and being able to support the mission to empower women.

We encourage you to visit the Sewing Together website to learn more about their projects and other ways in which you can support the program here.

The collection will be available on our website from early next week!

We thank you for your support!

Sandra and Joanna
